Choreographer Jani Master arrested for raping 21-year-old, case filed under the POCSO act

National Film Award-winning choreographer, Shaik Jani Basha, aka Jani Master has been charged under section of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. As per several media reports, the Telugu choreographer was booked by the Narsingi police of Cyberabad on Wednesday, September 18, following a complaint of sexual assault by a 21-year-old woman. As reported by India Today, Jani Master was charged under sections of the POCSO Act on Wednesday, September 18, following a complaint of sexual assault by a 21-year-old woman. In her complaint, the woman – who worked as a junior assistant choreographer with Jani, accused him of sexually abusing her over six years during their outdoor shoots and at her residence.

After filing the FIR, the survivor submitted a 40-page written document to the Telangana State Commission for Women, citing a detailed description of her ordeal with evidence. Nerella Sharada -chairperson of the committee, told the media that the commission intervened in the matter and issued orders to provide police protection to the complainant.

Jani was initially booked under sections 376 (2) (punishment for sexual assault), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The police added the POCSO clause after identifying that the Jani Master allegedly started abusing the woman when she was 16 years old, aka a minor.

As per the latest report, Jani Master was arrested on Thursday by the Cyberabad police in Goa. A police officer informed a news agency that the choreographer would now be produced before a local court to obtain a transit warrant and be taken to Hyderabad.

Jani has choreographed several popular songs including Butta Bomma with Allu Arjun and Pooja Hegde and Arabic Kuthu with Vijay and Pooja Hegde. He’s also choreographed Stree 2’s Aaj Ki Raat, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’s title track and Laal Peeli Akhiyaan, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan’s Billi Billi and Jailer’s Kaavaalaa. Jani won the National Award for Best Choreography for the song, Megham Karukaatha.
